Homework for December 8th - December 13th

Blocks E,F, and H - Actively read section one taking notes and summarizing the main ideas.

Block B - Finish coming up with the "why's" for the Bill of Rights.  Try to answer the following questions about each of the Bill's ten rights:

Why did the Framers write in these protections?
Why do you think they felt it necessary to protect these specific things?

Also, see if you can come up with any new students rights based on the Universal Declaration of Human and Children's Rights that I gave you in class.  If you can't come up with anything new, see if you can come up with modifications to the existing rights that you presented.

Homework for December 1st - December 6th

The purpose of the "Star Power" game was to get you thinking about the idea of "power," and how it is used and abused in society.  Please answer the following questions to continue your reflection from the game:

1.)  What makes you follow rules?
2.)  Is there anything wrong with the idea of wanting to be in the highest social class in a society?
3.)  How is it possible to limit the governments power?
4.)  Where does power come from?
5.)  What are the negative side effects of all people constantly competing against one and other for a spot in the highest class?

Homework for 11/7/11

Blocks E, F, and H - Since I will not be seeing most of you until Monday the 14th, please read section 3 in the packet that I have given you.  Read this actively, taking notes on the Proclamation of 1767, the Stamp Act, and the Quartering Act.

These three acts are very important to the town hall meeting that we will have on Monday.  So make sure that you understand them well.

I recommend going back and rereading the information on Saturday or Sunday night to prepare for the meeting.  Your participation will be graded during that simulation.

Also for homework, you must fill in the hand out that was given to you.  Page number 44.  It corresponds with section 5.3's reading.

If you have any questions about this please come and see me.  Have a good weekend, go outside and play!

Block B - Read sections 4 and 5 actively.  Also complete the hand out given to you:  sections 5.4 and 5.5.

Homework for the weekend of 11/5 and 11/6

Block B - Complete the reading of section 3.  You must actively read this section and fill out the handout numbered page 44.  Also, be prepared for the town hall meeting on Tuesday.  Go over your character and really understand your role and who your represent.  Your historical character perspective is due as well on Tuesday.

Block's E, F, and H - Historical perspective is due on Monday.  Also you must actively read sections 1 and 2.  Answer the three questions on the bottom of page 43 (handout).  You must also complete the colony geography questions 1-5 that we started in class. 

All blocks - be prepared to have your notebooks in order and your backpack monsters starved!

1.) The "perspectives" assignment - this is where you choose a character from history and provide me with two differing perspectives of this person.  Due dates:  Block B - November 8th.  Block's E,F, H - November 9th

Homework for 9/26- 9/27

For Homework tonight:

  1. Please revisit this site, and go to sections:
    • "What does global climate change mean?"
    • "What is the greenhouse effect?"
    • "How do we know the climate is changing?"
  2. Take Cornell style notes on these three sections.  Make sure you understand what a greenhouse gas is, and how that is different from the greenhouse effect.
  3. Look up "The Kyoto Protocol" - try to come up with a one to two sentence summary of what this is, and write it in your notes.
  4. Sign up for edmodo .  Use the group code: ne17t8
  5. Bring a digital video camera to school the next time we see each other.  This can be an iPhone, flip camera, or an actual digital video camera.  
  6. Print and bring the population data table that  I had you do for homework over the weekend.  Make sure the questions are answered.  You only need to print and bring Lesson 1, step 1 and 2.

  1. HW – Make sure that the section 58 – 65  is read (pay close attention to birth and death rate, and population distribution)and answer numbers  1,2,3,4,5, and 7 on pg. 63  - Please answer these questions in your Notebook.  I will be checking this on Monday and Tuesday.

Homework for 9/14/11

This is what I would like you to do for homework tonight:

  • Please do the population density calculations on page 62 in your book.  If you already did this in class, then you don't have to worry about it.  In addition to the countries listed in the book, please also do the calculations for China, India, and Vietnam.  You will have to look up the population and total area online before you can complete this.  
  •  Ask your parents/market vendor what they estimate rice cost in 2010, 2009, 2008 and today.  Ask them why they think the price of rice is rising.

Migration and Immigration

Homework for tonight and tomorrow:

  1. Read pages 66-71 (using active reading techniques)
  2. Go into HCMC and look for an area that has been effected by migration or immigration.  Take photos (3-4) of this area showing the effect that has taken place. 
  3. Post these photos on your blog with captions explaining how the area has been effected and what it is we are looking at.

Rap/ Song/ Poem

Hello Dear 8th Graders,

For homework tonight and tomorrow, you are to create a rap/song/poem about the hydrologic cycle.  You must include all of the steps of the cycle as outlined in the cartoon that we watched in class.
